PHOTOSET: #RGR VIA @M_DEMARTINOOne of my favorite aspects of social media (Instagram, in particular) is the ability to follow an event - in the moment, from perspectives and through eyes of strangers that you might have never been able to witness previously.
I followed the #RGR take closely as the Rapha Gentlemen’s Race was underway this past weekend, and truly enjoyed the images by Matt DeMartino. He was kind enough to share them, along with some words.
“Though I grew up in Northern New Jersey, I had never experienced much of the state by bike, picking up the sport only after moving to Georgia after a brief stint in New York. While the 130 mile ride, replete with gravel and soaring with 10,000 feet of vertical elevation gain, was difficult, testing the gamut of bike handling prowess, mental certitude, and the core of teamwork, I was astounded by the beauty of the landscapes we traveled through.”

I saw James briefly a few weeks back wearing this coat, and had no idea who/what created such a piece. Luckily, he explains it to us in detail and wears it well here.
jamesnord:

Rapha teamed up with Raeburn to create a new city riding jacket  made from repurposed milatary parachutes which have been deconstructed and reconstructed  integrating the original seams. I have been living in this jacket on and off the bike for weeks and can’t recommend it enough. It’s Weird enough to make people look twice, but technical enough to ensure it does it’s intended job. They will go on sale on Friday and they won’t last long. There are only 300 of each color and less than 1,000 worldwide.

ALL CHIPS ON THE TABLE BY GARRETT CHOW
From his video part in the original Mash video to his current works with Specialized, Garrett Chow has been an inspiration of mine since I discovered the bicycle. If you’re in the San Francisco area, be sure to check out this event.
