POINT OF (RE)VIEW: BARFLY GARMIN MOUNT
A clean cockpit is a good cockpit. You would think that when investing money into a Garmin device for your bicycle, the mounting mechanism provided would be as equally sleek and clean. Wrong. Luckily, Woody Tate from Above Category (a shop in Marin County, CA) shared this frustration and actually decided to create a solution.
Enter the Barfly. Currently, this USA-made accessory is the only alternative to allow mounting your Garmin Edge 200, 500, or 800 device in front of, rather than on top of your stem. Aside from the aesthetic advantage of no longer having the stock Garmin mount plopped on top of your stem, it pushes your Garmin Edge further in front of you allowing for easier and more importantly, safer communication with your device.
I’ve had mine for over a month now and have been a fan since the first ride with it. My Edge 800 fits and feels more secure using the Barfly than it did with the stock Garmin mount. Though the price tag of $39.99 for a bike computer mount might seem a tad steep for some, I think it’s definitely a recommended accessory purchase for Garmin Edge owners.
