RAPHA: WEAR YOUR STORY
Pleasant surprise seeing my iPhone shots on Rapha’s Wear Your Story for October. Below is the story that I posted on the Rapha Facebook Page to match the photograph. Definitely some good stories worth checking out.
A few months back, I was struck by a motorist. As I lay in the ambulance, hospital-bound, three things were running through my head.
One: I sure as hell hope I didn’t break anything too badly.
Two: I hope my bicycle survived.
Three: Whatever happens, I hope they don’t have to cut through my new Rapha kit to take my x-ray.
After about an hour on the hospital bed, my adrenalin began to wear off, and pain began to creep up on me like shots of Jameson once you get up off the bar stool. They wheeled me out to have x-rays taken of my immobilized and throbbing left shoulder. After what felt like hours of screaming in agony while the radiologist attempted to capture the images of my bones, mission accomplished, and I was wheeled back to my hospital room. Later, the nurse would come to tell me I fractured my clavicle and would have to get surgery in order for it to heal.
One: I broke my collarbone, yes .. but it could have been worse. Hooray for life.
Two: My bicycle survived, but most importantly, so did I.
Three: They didn’t have to cut through my country jersey or bib, and bet your ass I’ll be wearing the same kit once I’m back on the saddle.
